The perfect roundness of a mother’s belly, the way her husband looks at her.... the first cry, that moment when we fall in love with the most perfect baby in the world. All of these moments are gone as soon as they appear. This is why next to photographing a wedding, pregnancy, and baby photography is the most rewarding part of my work.
My own little boy is fascinated by the fact that he was in my tummy and it is a wonderful thing to share with your toddler, child, or even years later when he or she is expecting a child of their own. Your pregnancy and the first few weeks with your newborn is your opportunity to tell your baby's story.
As with all my work, I take care to work with my clients to produce images that reflect their personality and to make their portrait experience a truly enjoyable one that is reflected in the expressions on their photographs.
I offer the comfortable surroundings of a studio in my own home complete with a full playroom for any little siblings and plenty of healthy snacks and drinks for both children and adults! Alternatively, I bring my portable studio to your own home to make life even easier for young children to relax at a time when they are coming to terms the excitment of mummy's growing tummy or the arrival of a sibling.
I can photograph you alone or you could include your partner and/or big brothers and sisters. You can be either fully or partially clothed, whichever you feel comfortable with. For the best effect the ideal time for the photo shoot is around 6 weeks before your baby's due date. The maternity portrait photo shoot will usually be done in your own home to maximise your comfort, but could be held in any location of your choosing including outdoors. Tips on preparing for your maternity photoshoot
| Schedule your photo session on a day that you, your partner and your children (if they are going to be in the shoot) will be relaxed and well rested. Try not to schedule too many appointments on that day before or after the shoot. At least two hours before the shoot, please try to remove or avoid any tight or elasticated clothing, underwear or a bra to prevent strap marks from appearing on your skin. I recommend wearing plain clothing with no logos. We want to emphasize your beautiful shape and busy clothes can be distracting. Eat a light snack before the shoot. |
Make-up should be light and natural looking. A light foundation, blush etc. to even out skin tones is perfect. Too much eyeliner or eye shadow can look very dark on photographs. If you want us to recommend a professional to do your make-up, please allow us to make a recommendation. Special jewellery is a nice accessory to the photographs, though too much jewellery can be distracting. Feel free to bring anything that you feel good in or want to be included in the photograph, including flowers or special clothing, such as scarves, shawls, veils. It is best to have a selection of around 3 outfits selected for the photoshoot. However, I do have some lovely material that can be used to create the special maternity images that you can see on my website. |

Capturing a good image of someone means understanding how to take a well-lit, flattering, relaxed and carefully positioned photo. As a professional, I know how to achieve this and I also know how to edit and delete the ones that don’t show you in the best light.
I use Canon prime lenses – light, unimposing and quiet. I always look for natural light but I’m not afraid to use flash where necessary to capture the most flattering shots.
